CandiDates take note: it’s difficult for me to imagine dating anyone who isn’t at least up for trying down dog (and my ideal future boo is already Namaste-tuned). Yoga is important to me, and I look forward to meeting someone I can practice with regularly. It’s for this very reason that I envy Darrin Zeer. The Lovers’ Yoga author met his lady Daisy at a meditation in Maui. They’ve been practicing yoga together ever since. Now, the duo is teaching others to enjoy the immense benefits they do. The Zeers have been tapped by Kindness Yoga to lead Lovers’ Yoga & Massage starting this Saturday, January 24.
303 Magazine sat down for chai with Darrin Zeer to discuss the pluses of meeting your partner on the mat.
Megan Zamora is half the yogi she used to be–literally. Just a few short years ago, she was lucky if she could see her feet. Now, she can balance on her hands. “When I started Outlaw Yoga at 18, I was a waitress at a pizza place in Lakewood,” remembers Zamora. “It was about a two block walk from where I lived and walking those two blocks showed up as my workout for the day. I weighed over 250lbs, and by the time I got to work from the house my heart was pumping and I was huffing and puffing for air.”
Walking two blocks to work each day wasn’t the only challenge Zamora faced at the time. “I was a complete klutz. I was so out of control of my body that I would be sitting in a chair at the dinner table and then somehow I’d fall onto the floor. This happened more than once! I remember spilling an entire five gallon bucket of ranch dressing one night at the restaurant. I had dressing in my hair, down my apron and in my shoes. I smelled faintly of ranch for a whole week.”
The camera opens on what appears to be an “astronaughty” slumber party. Hotties in orange spacesuits gradually begin to stir and propel themselves toward the walk of shame. The naughtiest one pulls a pair of salmon panties from her pocket and dangles them near the nostrils of a curly-haired man passed out on a life-sized teddy bear. Black-rimmed glasses magically appear on the man’s face as he gets up to toss a flute at someone spooning a disco ball nearby. Ball spooner stumbles to the john for a reality check. In the process, he awakens a lingerie-clad brunette in a plastic lion mask.
