As a singing telegram artist who’s sung dozens of different birthday songs for thousands of different singing telegram recipients, Orange peel believes we can do better than the birthday song that’s become ubiquitous. It’s lyrically redundant and melodically dirge-like. Enter: “Birthday Medicine.” Peel first learned “Birthday Medicine” from a friend in Mexico. The author is currently unknown, but YouTube user Tammy Gallo claims an earlier version was written by a Vermont woman named Maya. Regardless, it’s undeniably a better birthday song. A birthday song that actually makes the person of honor feel cherished and incredibly special. A song that deserves far greater exposure. So Orange peel recorded his own version. El Javi produced it and supporting vocals were contributed by Andy Babb, Elle Logan, Larea Edwards, Lex Alvis, Rachelle Benson and Ray Taulbee (who also played kazoo). The tune was mixed and mastered by DVLP Music founder Drew Dugan.
”Birthday Medicine” by Orange peel moses arrives on streaming music platforms April 20. Pre-save it here.
